You write the phrase at the top of the board: **delayed gratification**.
Not the motivational version. Not the famous Stanford marshmallow experiment. This is Isabella's own vocabulary. In team meetings, she tells her analysts to "wait through warning lights" rather than escalate immediately. She frames it as discipline: don't panic-sell, don't overreact, wait for confirmation.
But you now see the other side of that coin. When Isabella "waits through warning lights," she is placing a hold on the PRAP escalation system. The risk alert sits in observation mode instead of reaching senior management. If the market recovers before anyone notices, she looks like a genius. If it doesn't, Blackridge is exposed without its leadership knowing.
Now your phishing approach makes sense in a way that makes you sick: you do not have to trick Isabella into being reckless. You have to sound like the part of her that already waits, already believes patience is protection, already trusts confirmation more than panic. Your fake persona (your blackridge persona!) needs to mirror her own professional language back at her, so she treats your messages as a natural part of her workflow rather than a threat.
You step back and look at the board. You feel tenderness and cruelty at once.
You pick up a marker and realise your hand is shaking.
